Cilantro
Cilantro requires complete sunshine or light shade. It also grows fast in humid and well-drained soil. Plants should also be six to eight inches apart. It is necessary to sow Cilantro at least every three weeks beginning late spring so you can harvest cilantro throughout the season. Use only water soluble fertilizers for this herb. Cilantro is harvested usually after 45 days. Sources say this fresh herb is effective protection against oxidative stress; decreases blood sugar levels; helps prevent urinary tract infection; and, improves sleeping by lowering anxiety.
Mint
The growth of mint (peppermint and spearmint) is similar to plant weeds. Mint blocks other herbs fast. Peppermint is a better choice if you are planting the herb indoors where the space is quite limited. Plant the peppermint seeds in a small container or pot filled with potting soil. It grows under the shade although mint needs some light every day. The herb grows up to two feet in height. Mint helps in proper digestion and good for skin care. It is used to treat headaches and nausea. This herb also prevents respiratory ailments and helps treat asthma.
Basil
Basil is really one of the hardest herbs to grow indoors and during the winter season. For indoor planting, the ideal variety is African Blue or Spicy Globe. African Blue does not have the bright green and broad leaves you often find in supermarkets. It looks like Thai Basil with narrow leaves and stalks that are bluish and purple in color. Basil contains anti-oxidants that fight various diseases like cancer. Basil also reduces inflammation, contains anti-bacterial properties to deal with infections and viruses, and effective for depression.
Oregano
Oregano requires watering if the soil becomes dry. See to it that you plant the herb in your garden with a spacing of eight up to 10 inches. Oregano can grow to a maximum of two feet with a span of approximately 18 inches crosswise. If you plant the herb in a pot, make sure the diameter is around 12 inches. The plant is very productive. Oregano is helpful for upper respiratory ailments. It is said to have cancer-fighting capabilities and contains anti-oxidants to support the immune system. This herb is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and possesses the capacity to exterminate MRSA bacteria that produces infections in the body.
Rosemary
Rosemary must not be over-watered. It should remain dry most of the time and does not require rich soil. There are different varieties such as the bush-like genus or creeping plant. If possible, pick the Blue Spire or Tuscan Blue erect variety. These remain more compressed which is suitable for indoor growing. Rosemary oil nurtures hair growth when applied over the scalp. It enhances memory, detoxifies the liver, promotes functions of the gallbladder, and reduces Cortisol, a steroid-based hormone.
