What is Green living?

Green or sustainable living is a standard. It means the reduction of a person or community’s use of natural resources. The purpose of this lifestyle is to create a balance between conserving and preserving natural resources, habitation, and biodiversity vis-à-vis human culture and societies.

  • Conservation refers to sustainable utilization and management of all natural resources.
  • Preservation means maintaining the earth’s current condition which remains untouched by human beings.

Green living signifies developing a certain lifestyle that supports nature rather than working against it. Green living means taking the necessary precautions to prevent or avoid long-term and irreparable damage against our environment. Fortunately, there are several ways of living green that you can easily adopt.

How can you start living green?

Here are several pointers on how to become a genuine “green advocate”. These may seem insignificant at first but it pays to learn the basics.

  • Purchase and use green-cleaning merchandise that will not cause adverse effects to the environment or members of your household. Such products offer the best alternative to abrasive chemicals found in over the counter cleaning compounds. You can always purchase eco-friendly soaps and washing detergents in many supermarkets. Or, make your own cleaning solutions using inexpensive household items like baking soda or white vinegar mixed with water. The results are simply amazing.
  • Use less energy inside your homes to reduce the impact on our environmental and bring down your electric bills. For example, you can try turning off the thermostat or minimize consumption of hot water during winter by using cold water to wash your clothes. Aside from paying lower electricity bills, you can also help lessen carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
  • Recycle frequently-used domestic items such as old clothing, furnishings, and small appliances. You can donate these to charity, hold a garage sale, or give them away to friends and relatives. Do not throw away unwanted belongings to the landfill. Recycling or utilizing fewer materials puts less pressure on mining. In fact, we will not need dumping sites anymore if only people will learn how to repossess and reuse all kinds of materials.
  • Cut down on your use of paper. Paper comes from trees that are chopped indiscriminately. This industry uses water and fuel extensively which go to waste whenever somebody throws away an old broadsheet or tabloid. You can always read the news online or opt for cotton napkins rather than paper towels. This practice saves tress together with garbage lot space and rubbish.
  • Switch off all your electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, and laptops) before retiring for the night. Make sure these gadgets and other appliances are unplugged. It would be advisable to shut down the power source completely at night. You do not just save money or prevent possible accidents but minimize needless utilization of energy.

Things appear difficult at first but making simple lifestyle changes need not overcome you. Besides, this transformation denotes a non-toxic, wholesome, and green living for you and your loved ones.
